Everytime we go backcountry something catastrophic seems to happen. Usually it involves a lot of getting stuck, rolling and flooding sleds and the occasional run in with a tree…
Today was a little more serious.
We were lucky and were across the valley when this let go. With a fracture 200 yards across and ten feet deep, this wet slide had potential for disaster.
This time of year resorts shut down and a lot of people start heading out into the wilderness. Educate yourself on what to watch for before you go. I’m not saying you have to get certified(recommended) but just knowing what/where to stay away from could be the difference between an epic day and digging to save a life…
I hear the argument that “we’re just going to build a jump” a lot. Dead is dead, whether you’re hiking lines or a booter. The best jump spots are always on the sketchy pitches.
Just because you don’t want to drop $200 on a transciever doesn’t mean you can’t spend 20 minutes online to educate yourself…
